Tui Na Traditional Chinese Massage
In ancient China, medical therapy was often classified as either "external" or "internal" treatment. Tui na was considered[by whom?] to be one of the external methods, thought to be especially suitable for use on the elderly population and on infants.
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle.
Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage
Fertility & Pre – IVF Treatments:
One in seven couples in the UK experiences difficulty conceiving. TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) has been successfully treating infertility for the past two thousand years.
Fertility is one of Fragrant Ivy's main areas of specialisation. With many year’s experience of providing successful outcomes, we treat clients who want to greatly increase their chances of a natural conception and pregnancy.
Many of our clients have a complicated treatment history and have tried conventional forms of fertility treatment without success
Herbal Medicine
Consisting only of natural medicines such as flowers, roots or even the bark of certain trees there are over three hundred commonly used Chinese medicines. The use of endangered animals, more of a tradition in certain parts of Asia than a substantial part of Chinese medicine, has no place whatsoever in the present-day practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Herbal medicines can be taken singularly but are more commonly used in prescriptions tailored to each patient by the practitioner. During the course of a particular treatment a prescription may even change as the condition alters. The medicine comes as a small bag of loose herbs which are boiled to form a medicinal soup which is taken twice daily.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine is guided by ancient oriental philosophy and a body of practical treatments which have been built up and used successfully for more than two and a half thousand years. TCM aims to treat the whole body holistically, and not just deal with a specific set of symptoms. Principal technique include:
Massage Treatments:
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the shallow insertion of fine needles into the body at carefully chosen points known as acupoints. There are around 500 such acupoints located around the body along energy channels known as meridians
Acupuncture needles are only ever used once & then disposed of.
A growing body of independent treatment for a wide range of acupuncture can be a powerful treatment for a wide range of conditions "see "
Scientific comment on Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques"). The world Health Organisation (WHO) lists 28 conditions for which acupuncture is proven to be an effective treatment including:
-Back Pain, Frozen Shoulder, Stiff Neck, Sciatica, Sports Injuries
-Headaches, Arthritis, Tennis Elbow, Complications Arising From Strokes
-Stress & Depression, Giving Up Smoking, Sinusitis, Chronic Catarrh
-Infertility
Fertility Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been shown to increase the success rate of IVF as well as reducing the possibility of miscarriage. An authoritative review of seven scientific studies in the British Medical Journal in February 2008 showed that in truly scientific ("double blind") test conditions genuine acupuncture treatment could increase a woman's chance of becoming pregnant by 65% on average.
Treatment by TCM is effective:
• As a stand-alone treatment
• When no physical cause for infertility is found
• In conjunction with, or as preparation for, IVF treatment
• When IVF treatment has failed
The ways in which TCM prepares the body for conception and pregnancy include:
• Stimulation of acupoints: Acupuncture restores balance, enhances energy, improves organ function and harmonises the reproductive and hormonal systems.
• Improving blood flow to the organs involved in pregnancy: This results in a stronger uterine lining.
• Changing hormone levels: Hormones impact the menstrual cycle to help regulate ovulation.
• Improving sperm production and quality: Acupuncture assists male fertility by enhancing well-being, promoting mental relaxation, improving blood flow and altering levels of relevant hormones.
Acupressure
Acupressure is a form of treatment which avoids the use of invasive needles and which aims to achieve the same outcome as acupuncture in unblocking meridians to rebalance the body's "Qi" (pronounced "Chee") Most people find that it brings with it a release of physical and emotional tensions, an enhanced sense of relaxation and a renewed sense of wellbeing.
Reflexology
In TCM the soles of the feet contain reflex points which correspond to all parts of the body including internal organs. These areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet. Users of reflexology have found that the most common outcomes from treatment include a sense of relaxation and an increased ability to cope with stressand anxiety pain relief and with helping to lift mood and promoting a source of wellbeing (source: cancer Research UK website 2014).
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is used for a wide range of conditions where muscles have been injured or become tensed as a result of injury, illness, stress or even poor posture. It is conducted by means of the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for a specific therapeutic effect. It includes the use of movements, acupressure and techniques to address the client's specific musculoskeletal needs. This leads to the healing process, which begins at the cellular level aiding soft tissues in repairing and restoring functional integrity and adapting the system back to full health.
Deep tissue massage is particularly useful in the treatment of chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain injury, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
Chinese Herbs
Chinese herbal therapy is an integral part of TCM. It is extraordinary effective for many chronic diseases as well as physical / emotional disorders such as infertility, skin problem, stress etc. The herbs used are entirely natural with no toxic ingredients.
Chinese herbs can be used as an aid to weight loss by helping the body process fat and by preventing the accumulation of unhealthy toxins in the system.
Herbal medicines can be taken individually but are more commonly used in prescriptions tailored to each patient by the practitioner. During the course of a particular treatment a prescription may even change as the condition alters.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy uses pressure from vacuum cups to warm up and unblock meridians by clearing away congestion from the soft tissues. It is an excellent treatment for Arthritis, muscle / sinew pain and also Cold and Flu.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion works by applying heat to certain locations of the body by using "moxa wool" (a kind of Chinese herb).
